Als weitere zuverlässige Quelle ließe sich William Safires Safire’s Political Dictionary (Oxford University Press 2008, hier bei Google Books) angeben. Dort steht: ‹Hanna was the Ohio political boss, later appointed Senator, who collected enogh money from his wealthy friends to help elect William McKinley in 1896 by outspending his rival, William Jennings Bryan, by ten to one. This pioneering of «bundling» contributions made Hanna the patron saint of today’s fundraisers, who remember his words spoken in 1895: «There are two things that are important in politics.
